CPAP

CPAP stands for continuous positive airway pressure and is used as an effective treatment against the sleep disorder obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).   CPAP applied to the OSA patient will the patient sleep by allowing the patient to breath better while sleeping.  A CPAP machine generates the air pressure for CPAP therapy.    PatientSleepSupplies.com carries many models of CPAP machines for your sleep therapy.

OSA patients have difficulties in breathing because their upper airway constricts or collapses during sleep and causes the restrictions in breathing.  These breathing restrictions cause the patient to awaken often and thus be unable to get good rest from sleep.

Applying CPAP to the airways can solve the breathing problems.  The compressed air from a CPAP machine delivered to the patient’s airway can keep the airway from collapsing and allow the patient to have unobstructed breathing.   CPAP is delivered to the airway via a CPAP mask that must form a seal.  It is positive air pressure and not the movement of compressed air that keeps the airway open so a good seal is important for effective therapy.

CPAP machines are very sophisticated and provide patients with air pressure at precise settings.  The amount of air pressure to be applied is determined by a sleep physician.  Modern CPAP machines can now track and record details of the therapy.

Many CPAP machines offer technologies that can adjust the level of air pressure on exhalation to make breathing feel more natural.

Breathing in the pressurized air from a CPAP machine can cause dryness of the airways. Many people choose to use a Humidifier with their CPAP therapy.  Some models of CPAP machines feature built in Humidifiers.

To keep your CPAP machine working well, it is important to regularly maintain and clean your CPAP machine.  CPAP machines require filters that help take out airborne particulates such as dust that can concentrate and damage the machine.  Filters also take out dust and other particulates from the air that the patient breathes in.

CPAP therapy has been shown to be very effective in the treatment of OSA and helps countless people to get better sleep and get the rest that they need.   Find the right CPAP machine for your sleep therapy at PatientSleepSupplies.com.
